Which is interesting because for the past two months Sony executives have been slamming consumer analysts and reporters who have been saying that the price cut was coming soon. At the same time, images and rumors of a Playstation 3 Slim model were leaked some time ago, leading Sony to send orders to websites to take down the leaked photos. So it was quite expected when at the GamesCon in Germany Sony announced the Playstation 3 Slim model. Sony apparently has been having a hard time keeping secrets lately if you remember the recent PSP Go! leak. The Toaster Slim will be out the first week of September and cost $299 with a 120GB hard drive. The unit itself will have a new cooling system making it cooler, quieter, and consume quite a bit less power. Though the rest of it's specifications follow the last line of Playstations rather closely, there are a few new changes that have people humming, one is the removal of third party operating system support (no more linuxing) and the addition to a new HDMI-CEC technology. The Slim will not have PS2 backwards compatibility much like the current models being sold, as Sony Executives have already said that it is off the table entirely back when they released the current models on shelves.
