Researchers led by Takahisa Furukawa, M.D. & Ph.D. of Japan's Osaka Bioscience Institute have named a protein that they discovered after the Pikachu character from Nintendo's pokemon game and anime franchise. The "Pikachurin" protein plays a role in the efficient transmission of kinetic vision information from the eyes to the brain, so the researchers named the protein after the Pokémon character known for its fast moves. The researchers expect that the discovery will help advance the treatments for retinitis pigmentosa, a major hereditary cause of blindness.
Just thought I'd share that with you guys. I thought it was silly. :]

I hate circuses. I hope that tiger rebels and bites that trainer's head off. I mean seriously to train a tiger to do that they must have been really mean to it. And when that guy cracks the whip on the floor that is basically telling the tiger that you better not screw up or i will hit you again. Poor kitty.....

Actually, there are many humane ways to get an animal (usually a dog or housecat, but in this case a tiger) to perform "tricks" like this without being cruel to them. Positive reinforcement (treats) and praise is one such way with which I am intimately familiar (so many years of dog training...). Circuses, however, have a very bad reputation when it comes to humaine treatment of their four-legged performers, so it wouldn't surprise me, I guess, if the animals are treated cruelly behind the scenes.

Omg yes! I mean, really:
"Oh, the bull doesn't really feel anything...they have really tough hide on their upper neck and back."
Ya, well, supposedly my elbow skin has no nerves either, but I think I'd notice if you JAMMED A SWORD INTO MY ARM!

people can just be jerks at times. there's also pit bull fights, cock fights. but yeah, circuses just have such a bad rep so if they are actually doing a good job everyone still assumes they aren't

You know watching the video it doesn't seem like either the horse or the tiger are uncomfortable with each other or their trainer for a matter of fact... the whip is common place for running horses like that just because of the noise of the whip, not actually beating the poor thing, if they used the loud noise during training (i.e. running around the ring) its only the encourage the horse to keep going even if it was in an uncomfortable environment such as a loud crowded circus area, kind of like the trainer going "hey, I'm here, and just keep going it'll be done soon" kinda thing... I don't really know a better way of explaining it, lol
but either way, the whip was probably ment to be as of some sort of encouragement to the horse and not a threat to the tiger...or something
